eMatrix ™ Miami
Anti-aging isn’t just for women. Men feel the pressure to look more youthful just as much as the ladies. A younger looking appearance can mean better job opportunities or at least the chance not to be discriminated against at work.
Just as you don’t want to look old, you also don’t want to look fake or as if you’ve had something done. Luckily, plenty of today’s cosmetic treatments provide subtle, but effective results. eMatrix™is an FDA-approved treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten and resurface the skin. Since it’s a non-invasive treatment, recovery time is short, making it a great choice for busy guys. Results appear over time, so you don’t have to worry about a sudden change in appearance giving you away.
Benefits & Most Common Treatment Areas
eMatrix is a gradual procedure that can produce a range of anti-aging results over the course of several treatments, perfect for subtle but substantial results. Here are some of the benefits of eMatrix:
- Resurfaces the skin
- Tightens loose skin
- Improves wrinkles
- Reduces acne scarring
- Brightens the complexion
- Improves overall skin texture
The benefits of the treatment go beyond the surface, however. Improved skin that looks youthful and re-energized can increase confidence and improve first impressions, which can be useful in both social and work settings. Most men who undergo eMatrix treatments are interested in the benefits for facial skin. However, the procedure can be used on other areas of the body if necessary.
Consultation
A consultation is necessary before your first treatment to discuss your goals and see if eMatrix is a good fit for your needs. There are many different resurfacing and anti-aging treatments available, and Dr. Walder tries to set each patient up for success by recommending a procedure that will be a good fit. Dr. Walder will assess your skin and listen to what you would like to achieve with eMatrix before making a recommendation. You will also get the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the treatment process.
Ideal Candidates
eMatrix is a gentle procedure that is suitable for a wide variety of patients. Candidates for eMatrix have mild to moderate signs of aging or skin irregularities and are willing to commit to a schedule of regular treatments. Ideal candidates should also have realistic expectations about the results of the treatment plan. As with all cosmetic procedures, patients should also be in general good health before undergoing treatment.
Procedure
eMatrix is known as a “sublative rejuvenation,” meaning it targets the deep skin tissues to encourage skin renewal and desired results. During the procedure, a special device is used to direct bi-polar radiofrequency energy deep into the skin. This bypasses the top layer, heating the deep tissues where collagen and elastin are generated. In this way, the surface skin is not harmed during the rejuvenation, as it is with more aggressive treatments like laser resurfacing. Discomfort during the treatment is minimal, and each eMatrix session lasts about a half hour. Patients will need about 5 treatments on average to see great results, with those sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Modest improvement can be observed in the days and weeks following each session. Because improved collagen production does not last forever, patients can always come back each year for a touch-up, once the initial treatment series is complete.
Recovery
eMatrix is an effective procedure, but it is relatively gentle compared to many other options for anti-aging. Only about 48 hours of downtime is required for each session, meaning you could go in for treatment on a Friday and be back in the office on Monday. The downtime is mild, and the most common side effects of treatment include minor swelling and redness. Skin roughness can persist for a few days after treatment. However, the skin will not fully peel, as is the case with many other treatments, and patients do not need to take extensive time for recovery.
Choosing the Right Dermatologist
Choosing the right doctor is the most important decision you will make in your anti-aging treatment plan. A specialist, board certified cosmetic dermatologist is the best choice for procedures like eMatrix, as they have the knowledge to help you get the results you want as quickly and safely as possible.

FAQs
Is e-Matrix safe for all skin types?
Yes. Unlike lasers that can have undesirable consequences for darker skin pigmentation, eMatrix uses radiofrequency energy that does not target the skin’s pigment. eMatrix is safe for any skin type and color.
How long does the treatment take?
For a full face treatment, it generally takes about half an hour to complete each session.
Is eMatrix good for treating sun damage?
eMatrix can improve overall skin texture and quality, as well as soften fine lines and wrinkles that are often signs of sun damage. However, there are other treatments that may be more suited to some signs of sun damage, like brown spots and pigmentation issues.
How long does the series take?
eMatrix treatments are usually spaced several weeks apart, so patients should expect the treatment process to take several months overall.
How is eMatrix different from laser treatments?
Unlike laser treatments, eMatrix does not target surface skin cells. Laser treatments are usually used for peeling and resurfacing the skin directly, while eMatrix uses a gentler, more indirect method to encourage the body to replace damaged skin cells on the surface on its own, by stimulating collagen production. This makes eMatrix a more gradual process, but a less aggressive approach works well for many patients.
